Idea of the week

Airports: essentially one large, windowless room without clocks, where people with way too much time on their hands wish that they were doing something else. Casinos: essentially one large, windowless room without clocks, where people kill way too much time time trying to win money so that they can do something else. Both have strict security issues and a tendancy to spill half-dead zombies out of their front door at the end of their visit, so how about COMBINING them?? Gambling in

I saw a cheeky ad in Melbourne CBD over the weekend, but sadly I didn't have my camera handy to snap it (damn you Cybershot!). It was a copy-only billboard above a 7/11 for http://www.getwinesdirect.com/, and basically said: Nice legs. Great body. Cheap but sensational. Comes to your door. Satisfaction guaranteed! getwinesdirect.com I thought that this was a good example of getting some saucy fun into advertising while suiting a target website and the overall branding perfectly. Must get a picture next time I see it...

One of the great things about Melbourne is all the local art, events and general creativity. Here are some of our favourites that we'd like to share: The Gorker Gallery presents some of the most thought-provoking exhibitions in town: http://www.gorkergallery.com/gorker_about.html The Lost And Found newsletter highlights a range of local creative spaces: http://www.visitvictoria.com/lostandfound Not exactly an art space, but certainly good food, we're including New York Tomato cafe in the hopes that they'll give us a free lunch. The reason why I wanted to write about this particular ad was that it doesn't seem to make much sense strategically: Firstly, it relies <entirely> on the assumption that someone would know who Fernwood was, and being someone who didn't, I assumed that

Fat Yak outdoor advertising, as seen near our Richmond office, which elicites a cry of "and just what are they trying to say" from everyone we mention it to:

Iterations

I saw these wall stickers just outside our offices (right next to the excellent New York Tomato cafe, should anyone be in the area), as well as some other places around Melbourne, and really love the style. I'm not sure if the 6.1 is in fact a developmental iteration of the character design, but I'm definitely on the lookout for other versions to see if they vary by number. It kinda

Surrogate posters

OK, so the film itself looks like a bad cross between I, Robot and 12 Monkeys (mon-key. MON-key. MON-KEY), but until someone gets back to us with a 'two very enthusiastic thumbs-up' review, we'll stick with the great posters: http://screencrave.com/2009-08-01/new-surrogates-posters/
